From Concentrate?

Post by Uncle Joshua » Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:22 am

I have just bought apple juice to make a turbo cider and noticed it says From Concentrate on it. Is it ok to use? I looked at pure stuff but it would work out at around £34 to make 23l.

As long as it's got no preservatives added into it, you should be fine. People add grape juice concentrate to wine kits and country wines all the time.

There's very little difference between from- and not-from- concentrate juices. It's only concentrated to make shipping from China cheaper. It's got the same apple, sugar, etc as any juice. It's diluted to make a drink that tastes good, and the taste is what matters.

OTOH... My base recipe always includes (per gallon) 500ml of Suma apple juice concentrate (actual concentrate, not from-concentrate). It's got great flavour, spot-on acidity, and gets more apple into the gallon - at the expense of upping the ABV a bit
