Recipe using Black Patent?

Post by BlightyBrewer » Sun May 28, 2006 1:58 pm

Has anybody got a recipe for a mild ale or Stout? I have 275g of black patent malt that needs using before the end of july.

Hi Blighty,

Well my http://www.forumforfree.com/forums/inde ... ost&p=7873 doesn't use black patent malt but I guess you could alter it a bit to suit. I really recommend it though (blowing my own trumpet I know) but I am very pleased with it indeed. Tried it out on friends at the first BBQ of the year today and everyone commented on how nice they thought it was - even those who do not normally drink stout :)

Well, I've ordered my stout ingredients from hop and grape, plus a nice dispensing tap for the corny...new toy!

I'm going for DL's recipe for Palmers Extra Stout:-

2.5kg Pale Malt
250g Crystal Malt
200g Black Malt
500g Soft Dark Brown Sugar
60g Fuggles

Doesn't say how long for the hops, but I'm guessing they are bittering so 90 mins.

Has anyone had experience of using soft dark brown sugar in brewing?

Yes, the DL Abbot Clone I brewed used it.

I dissolved the sugar in some hot water and then added this solution to the boiler.
