Suggestions for a first AG brew using.........

Post by Bionicmunky » Thu May 22, 2008 7:08 pm

Hi all,

To go with the kit I ordered today I ordered som ingredients too.

H&G were all out of Wheat Malt which was also on my list, but I have started my store cupboard with the following

Standard Pale Malt Maris Otter (grain) - 25kg
Carapils Malt (3kg)
Crystal Malt (3kg)
Cascade Hops (200g)
Fuggles hops (250g)
Challenger hops (vacuum packed)
2 packets Safael S 04 yeast
2 packets Safael US 05 yeast

Can anyone suggest a nice recipe made from the above. I'll be running the 10g H&G setup so 5g & 10g recipes are fine, although I probably better start with a 5g.

I'm loving summer ales at the moment a la rebellion's 'Zebedee' or similar.

fermentation/conditioning options are a 10g bucket, 2x7g airlocked buckets, a nearly drunk dry KK top tap, and if I can get away with it a couple of cornies when a certain someone get's back from hols.

Thanks in advance (again),

John

The Cascade would make a nice summer ale, Townes IPA springs to mind, just maybe use some carapils instead of the wheat malt, use the yeast US-05

Another brew could be a standard English bitter made with the Pale and Crystal, Challenger and Fuggles with S-04

Townes IPA
OG 1049
IBU 44 EBC 7.9
23 litres

Pale Malt 4.88kg
Wheat Malt 200g

Mash 66C for 60mins

Cascade 4.8AA 72g 60mins
Cascade 4.8AA 21g 15mins
Cascade 4.8AA 22g 0mins

Boil 60mins

US-05 Yeast

this may not be the original recipe, I can't find my Olloson book and this is the one I have on Promash file, it turned out great though.

English Bitter
OG 1039
IBU 30 EBC 12.6
23 litres

Pale 3.78kg
Crystal 55L 260g

Mash at 67C for 90mins

Challenger 6.4AA 16g 90mins
Fuggle 4.5AA 25g 90mins
Fuggle 4.5AA 11g 15 mins

Boil 90mins

S-04 yeast

I have some wheat malt and some goldings whittling it's way to me from hamstead homebrew (along with a cornie + tap)

So I may have to give the IPA a go :)
