brown/scotish ale
brown/scotish ale
Has anyone got a good recipte for a brown/scottish ale which has low bitterness to it, as im not a fan of to much.This is going to be my first brew this weekend fingers crossed, so keep it simple please.I am only going to be making 11 litres at a time so it would have to be a recipie for that amount ,unless I can just half the ingredients for 23 litres,,i'd also like to keep the to about 3/4.5% abv thanks.

There's a Scottish Light Ale in Wheeler's Homebrewing, which sounds pretty nice, although I'm sure others can provide recipes as well. The recipe is for 23 litres, so just halve the ingredients for 11 litres (except use a ful sachet of yeast).
Alcohol = approx 3.8%.
Pale Malt 4,000 grams
Crystal Malt 170 grams
Roast Barley 50g
Challenger Hops 35 grams (full 90 mins)
Styrian Goldings 10 grams (last 15 mins)
Irish moss 5 grams last 15 mins.
mash temp 66 C for 90 mins
Boil 90 mins
OG 1037
Final gravity about 1009
Bitterness 20 IBUs (this is pretty modestly bitter)
