Fancy brewing this one. I've managed to find a recipe, but putting it into Beersmith comes out with unusual figures for a mild:
Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild (23L)
5kg MO (75%)
1.650kg Crystal (I have 60L) (25%)
90 min boil
41g Fuggles
35g Goldings
Late hop of 20g Goldings (15 min)
Colour 37.8, OG 1.062, Bitterness 42.4 (this seems a bit high for a mild)
Ok, the OG is gonna be dependant on my efficiency, so I will adjust to 1.058, but it looks way too bitter. What should I be aiming for in this brew? Also any recommendations on yeast?

Re: Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild
That's not far off the Graham Wheeler recipe for 23litres:
Pale Malt.....5100g
Crystal malt ...900g
Start of boil
Goldings....34g
Fuggles...40g
Have made it twice with a live brewery yeast and it comes out very nice.
S-04 should do a good job on it.
Good luck.

Re: Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild
Good choice it's a lovely malty brew, and, a historic one I suppose. Mild didn't always mean 'weak'.
I brewed wheelers recipe and found it wasn't too bitter - presumably because the OG is higher. Enjoy.

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.
Re: Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild
Brewed Graham Wheelers version after having a few pints at a local pub last year
Its on my list to do again

Cheers chaps. Recipe has been adjusted accordingly.
Be able to give it a go when my belgian monster has finished fermenting (10 days and still going).
