Coffee Porter

Post by EportJake » Thu Oct 30, 2008 3:18 pm

I am planning on making a strong porter for xmas. My aim is to make a slightly sweet beer with a coffee kick and a delicate hop character (if thats at all possible!). Here is a recipe I drummed up on beersmith any comments and suggestions for a yeast would be welcome.

5kg MO 80%
600g Crystal (60L) 9.5%
300g Diastatic Amber Malt 4.8%
75g Black Malt 1.2%

300g Treacle 4.8%

30g Northern Brewer (60 mins)
25g Willamette (15 mins)

Coffee liquor added when kegging

OG 1.062, colour 46.7, IBU's 28.1, ABV 6%
BREWERY UNDER CONSTRUCTION

I'd be tempted to put some ground coffee - good dark espresso into the mash, although I'm not sure if any of the flavour would carry through the fermentation process.
