Anything badly wrong with this recipe?

Post by inthedark » Tue Nov 04, 2008 2:11 pm

Hi, I'm using the following recipe as a starting point for something which will possibly become my regular brew - one that I can refine into something that suits me rather than using clone recipes. I'm after a pretty standard 'best bitter' - type ale.

It may be exactly like something else, but I've knocked it together from first principles, so to speak (although the choice of hops was more about what I had in stock!)

So, can you please reassure me that this is not a recipe for 23L of drain fodder? I'd like at least to know that I haven't committed some basic error before I commit the day and the ingredients to it.

Looks fine to me, I keep meaning to do a bunch of brews using a similar grain bill to that and playing around with the hops, single varieties etc.

So far I have to admit you cant beat a good Challenger and Goldings mix. Works well.

Brewed a simmular beer at the weekend, a little less pale & crystal malt no black malt but I used 80gm of amber malt. Hops about the same but used styrians as late hops. Same yeast. Gravity was 1042. I`ve brewed a lot of beers like these always a good full bodied session beer. Go for it.

That looks great, actually. I like the proportion of crystal, the amount of hops and the yeast too. Good luck with it.
