I don't use pro mash or anything. I kinda make them up. Now, I made this the other week:
6.5kg Marris Otter crushed pale malt
1.75kg Crystal malt
Goldings 4.1% 2 oz for 60 minutes
Goldings 4.1% 1oz for 30 minutes
Goldings 4.1% 1oz for 10 minutes
Approx 28 IBU
1044 and 42 litres at about 74% efficiency.
Drinking it now. Lovely dark pint, smooth. Not overly hoppy. Big bodied and good mouthfeel. Caramelised.
So, what did I make? I think it is like a southern brown ale. I don't have access to these recipe generators so made mine up and wonder if it falls into any category? BTW you may have guessed I am a southern hop head. Its a fantastic pint, very pleased with it as its still young. I will drink a barrel and by the time I have done that the other will be a bit more aged....
anyone name the recipe?
Re: anyone name the recipe?
Given the large amount of crystal (>20%) it reminds me of the recipe for Sarah Hughes dark ruby mild...only weaker.
Re: anyone name the recipe?
Categorising beer is always a bit subjective. A brown ale would normally have a small amount of something like Choc malt to darken it but you have got the dark colour from the large quantity of Crystal. If you omit the Choc malt from a Brown Ale you kinda get an Amber Ale. How about a Dark Amber Ale?
