Irish Red Ale

I have had a request from someone to brew a Beamish Red type brew.
I have tried googling a recipe and have come up with a couple of starting points but was just wondering if anyone has a beamish red recipe and or some information on that particular style of beer.

I would keep it simple 90% pale malt 10% crystal and 1-2% roasted barley or chocolate malt, obviously you may need to play around percentages and keep the hops low.

I see American brewer throwing everything in the mash it’s a simple beer not unlike some of the Scottish styles

I haven't brewed this yet, but I've been snooping round for a good Irish red recipe too, and this is what I've come up with so far:

3 kg. English 2-row Pale
.5 kg. Crystal Malt 120°L
.5 kg. Munich Malt info
.03 kg. Roasted Barley
.3 kg. Barley Flaked
25 g. East Kent Goldings (Whole, 5.00 %AA) boiled 60 min.
10 g. East Kent Goldings (Whole, 5.00 %AA) boiled 10 min.
10 g. East Kent Goldings (Whole, 5.00 %AA) boiled 2 min.

which is basically what oblivious suggested.

No Oblivious is going for 101%- 102% grains :D

Des, I brewed the above recipe last Wednesday. I relaced the Goldings with Northern Brewer, but otherwise the recipe was the same. I mashed at 68C, and got 22L at 1.041.
Down to 1.006 last night. Nice colour, and plenty sweet.

Des, I bottle last wednesday, the 6th. Tasted nice and malty then. With the weather the fermentation was probably on the high side. I'll probably crack one open tonight, to see how it's coming along. I'm just hoping I didn't over-do the sweetness.

noby, what was your final verdict on this one?

I've just had a high priority request for Beamish Red from the most important person in my life (apart from me).
I have vague memories of enjoying Beamish Red but can't for the life of me remember what it actually tasted like.

Yours is the only AG recipe I have found. There is also an extract recipe here:

I've not tried Beamish Red.

This one, I've played around with the recipe a little, but I've brewed a few batches of what is essentially the same recipe. I dropped the mash temp. since then, as it can become overly sweet, but at 65-66deg there's still plenty of malty sweetness in it.

Well, I cracked this one open last night and I'm most impressed. You get stout-type flavours, a whole lot of body, a superb head and a bit more sweetness than, say, a guiness clone. Colour is a bit darker than I expected but still a deep red colour.

More important than all that, this beer was brewed for my better half's birthday (Monday) and she is liking it too.

I used noby's recipe at the top of this thread except I subbed WGV hops for the EK goldings. Next time I brew it I will reduce the roast barley a tad.
