never made my own brew befroe because to be honest i do not know how much stuff to use.

can someone just run through a quantity guide for me using the above homebrew store.

i want to make 40 pints of something.

there are sections called

malt extracts
hops
grains

so to one tin of malt extract, how much hops and grains do i need to make something drinkable.

once ive made one batch things will become more easier its just the first try i need help on.

Silkyuk9,

Just replied to you on my Golden Ale thread before I spotted your query here.

You need to decide whether you want to brew with kits, extract, or 'all-grain'. Have a look around the forum, all of these techniques are covered.

Its up to your preference, space available, budget etc, but I think I'm fairly right in saying that most people end up brewing all-grain, and you will be able to brew ales that are superior to many commerical ales. The only slightly prohibitive factor is the initial outlay on equipment, but this is soon saved if you compare to the cost of drinking in a pub.

Happy Brewing,
Matt

Are you wanting to start off using a kit? Initial costs -30 quidish, or allgrain? initial costs 180ish?

ive brewed for a lot of years but never from scratch, always bought the tin and just added water sugar etc.

i get some really nice ales and lagers.

i just want to take it to the next step now, on the above link there are lots of ingrediants to buy. i would like some one just to say, ok buy this this and this. Add this and do this.

i only need showing once and ill be away.

im just not sure of what to buy and how much.

i have plenty of brewing equipment for kits but never tried to take it to the next level.

Ah right, well equipmentwise your gonna need a mash tun - normally a converted picnic box, a boiler of some kind with a hopstopper and a FV which you'l have from the kits already. H&G did a really good started set, but it seems in the past few weeks these have been stopped for a while, I think I read Leyland Homebrew does something similar, or you can make your own, theres a few guides on here.
For the beer you use Pale malt as the base malt, generally work on about 1kilo of malt per ABV%, a pack of hops of whatever variety you fancy and a packet of yeast, and thats it!

Maybe try doing extract brewing for a while?

http://howtobrew.com/section2/index.html Might be of some use....
Also check out the extract section they might be able to give more guidance :)

I'd echo the advise to give extract brewing a go. You don't need much more equipment than you would for kit brewing and there's no comparison with quality of the beer you get at the end. There's loads and loads of recipes to try too :)
Best wishes

Well I doubt a 'do this do that' reply will ever be suitable, for the utmost in minimal searching and research you find at the top right hand side of this screen some buttons that link to kits, extract and all grain, within these pages is most of what you need to know (and you didnt break sweat finding out)
