Porter-ish

Post by Piscator » Fri May 29, 2009 6:31 pm

I knocked out this brew on Wednesday using up some specialty malts I had laying around.

Not too sure of the style but guess it will be porter-ish?

5g brew length
4kg Marris Otter
350g Caramunich
350g Carafa Special 1

Hopped to 30 IBU using Goldings at 90mins 30 mins and 15 mins

I ended up with 25L at OG 1046

The fermenter is throwing out some lovely smells and the wort is deliciously dark :D

I'll update on taste when it moves to the barrel.

Cheers
Steve

After tasting a sample from gravity testing I'd be tempted to classify this as more of a "Super Mild" than "Porter-ish"

Gravity is at 1012 after 3 days

I was thinking the same - the other new style description I had in mind was "Not quite Stout" a bit like "I can't believe it's not butter"

Add a bit of brown and/or chocolate and you're probably getting over into porter territory :D Like the sound of super-mild 8)

Yes - very very nice.

I'm planning to give it a fairly comprehensive road test this weekend with a mate

Maybe I should start a new thread - Invent a beer type
