Hall and Woodhouse (Badger) Hopping Hare clone?

Post by FlourPower » Sun Mar 22, 2009 11:41 pm

http://www.hall-woodhouse.co.uk/pdf/HW_seasonal_ale.pdf
Appearance: A traditional style light
golden ale
Aroma: Distinctive strong
hoppy aroma with a slight
citrus undertone
Taste: Fresh hoppy taste
with noticeably hoppy and
bitter flavours
After Pallet: Hoppy, with a
clean crisp finish
Cask 4.5% ABV
Ingredients:
Hops: Super Styrian hops
(added twice to the copper)
and Styrian Goldings Dry Hop
Malt: Pale lager malt
Yeast: Badger’s unique yeast
Water: Pure Dorset spring water
So I had a pint of this last night in a Hall and Woodhouse pub. It was fantastic and kept in immaculate condition. However as a seasonal I want to drink this in the summer long past april. So I was wondering if anyone had a recipe especially extract although I can go with all grain.

The above is the information I could find about it. Although I definately will be going back to drink more of this. Even if it was £3.10 a pint.
Drinking: Turbo Cider, Black Rain Stout, Jotun Killer Double Stout, Apple Wine, AG#1 F.A.G,
Fermenting: Bramble Wine
Conditioning: Blueberry Jam Mead, Gales Mead, HLM EPIC FORCE Methegln, Tropical Juice TC on an orange mead slurry, AG#2 S.L.A.G.
Waiting for Space: Muntons Conn: Bock

Since no one else has replied.

I have also tried this and was impressed
I have no idea of the official recipe but keep it simple and as it says

something like:
100% lager malt grist

Hops say 30 IBU

25 IBU at 60 mins
5 IBU at 10 mins.

Then dry hop when you cask/barrel.

Should do the trick

cheer for the info, i'm gona give this a try, but if i get i right its gona leave me fattyfatty bumbum for sure

also found this quoting admiral and boadicea

Badger Brewery, Hopping Hare (England)
(RP) The beer is hopped in the copper with Admiral and Boadicea varieties and then “late hopped” at the end of the boil with Styrian Goldings. The hops create 30 units of bitterness. The beer has an inviting gold colour, a good head of foam, and a complex aroma of light butterscotch, lemon fruit, grassy hop resins and a cracker wheat grain note. Bitter hops are balanced in the mouth by juicy malt and tangy lemon fruit.

I look forward to hearing the results, had a few pints of this from a keg last year and would love to make something similar =P~

I also spent a good month drinking this back in April - It was served to me in a Hopping Hare glass which had a description of the beer on the side; It said it was "Tripple-Hopped with Styrian Goldings" - and it was mighty hoppy. I'd suggest using a large amount of the hops late in the boil and dry-hopping with as many hops as possible.
