Idea for using Hallertau/Northern Brewer hops

Morning all,

I've got a packet of Hallertau/Northern Brewer hops (from H&G), aa 7%, in the freezer. Would these be suitable for making a hoppy summer ale?. I've got some Maris otter, torrified wheat, chocolate malt but only about 25gm of crystal so I'll probably only do a 5 litre batch. Does 95% MO, 3% torrified plus 2% crystal sounds right? (I think that was the recommended balance somewhere in another post). Would someone advise a hop schedule, please - I haven't had time to play with the software tools

Northern Brewer is more of a bittering hop although it is used as a finishing hop. If you've ever tasted Anchor steam beer - that's Northern brewer used as a finishing hop.

BTW, the hallertau in the name indicates where the hops were grown (in the hallertau region of Germany). It doesn't mean these hops are like the classic 'hallertau' hops (which usually means the Mittelfruh variety).

Don't recall ever having had any of it. Good to know it can be used as an finishing hop.
