Will be bottling in 330ml bottles so that will end up being at least 40 bottles. Which is plenty for a massive beer like that.

Sorry to get confused but are you saying you would use simcoe for bittering rather than the aroma/flavour? Was looking to see if I could get the passionfruit/pineapple thing going on that Simcoe is supposed to produce.
Ah. 15L makes perfect sense!

Personally, I'd use Simcoe for the bittering (as I believe that the bittering addition does carry some flavour over), and use some in the flavour addition (mixed with the other hops), plus a little tiny bit in the aroma addition. I think they give a resiny, piney taste that I love in a big beer - especially with strong citrussy flavour and aroma hops. Having said that, I have no idea what Herkules are like.

I like to kind of "blend" my hop additions on complex beers like these, so the Simcoe theme would carry through from bittering to aroma, but only in a small way, so that it just kind of hints at it rather than hits you with it.

It also has close to 200g of dry hops in a 5 gallon batch

Including simcoe :D
I'm going to have to buy the book and make that. Especially after getting pished on Pliny last week. It was superb.

196osh wrote:On another note, how much wort/beer am I going to lose to 300 grams of hops?
I have found that dried whole flower hops absorb roughly 15ml per gramme. So 300g of hops will give you about 4.5L of wort loss.

Your mileage may vary.

What's the Mysti IPA recipe, Sub ? I really need to up my batch size......23L is great (especially for having a variety of beers to drink), but I think i need to go to 100L or so.

:D Haha! We've heard it's meant to be in cinemas in May/June next year. Of course, the pooch will probably get left on the cutting room floor. We'll see....

Check out Recipes and Kentish IPA. I got the hops and Mysterio formulated the recipe. I'm on a farm with pretty much the original 'Fuggles' plants growing all around me although most are dug up now, but some are left. I hoovered them all. You want a sample? :D

Nice one.....I'd love a sample, but to be honest, I've got so many hops in at the minute that I'm going to be hard pushed to use them up as it is. I'm going to have to do some big assed hop bombs over the next couple of months.
