anyone have a Wherry recipe?

Post by drmick » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:31 pm

Hi All

just had to tidy the garage after a leaking keg (not really leaking I think the tap was left partially open  ) and found a bottle of woodforde wherry that was my first kit I made at the end of last year. So just in the process of drinking it and is very nice. So did a search on here to se if there was a recipe posted and no joy, therefore does anyone have an AG recipe for a Wherry clone?

Cheers

I won't be too specific re the malt grist, you'll need 93% Pale malt & 7% Crystal 150 to get an O.G. ~ 1039 for a 5 gallon batch. The copper hop grist is Goldings & Progress (60/40) for an IBU of ~ 30. Now this is the important bit... 10 mins. from the end of the boil add 70 gms of Styrian Goldings (that's not a typo) yes 70 gms. I don't know of any other hop that you can use at this rate as a late addition and its this that gives you that wonderful fruity, tangy flavour.
