Good Gobhoblin!

Post by crookedeyeboy » Thu Oct 29, 2009 1:32 pm

Just thought I would share my thoughts about AG#4.

I brewed up a Gobhoblin a couple of weeks back from GW's new edition but had no dextine or whatever it was to put in.

Let me just reassure anyone out there thinking of doing this recipe.....ITS BLOODY LOVELY!!!! :D :D :D

Its only been in bottles 3 days! so I thought I would try one last night and could not believe how amazing it was....I hope this hobby just gets better and better!!

Nuff Said....

Gobhoblin? In GW's book? It's not in mine, are you referring to Hobgoblin btw?

I know Paul at Barley Bottom sells a recipe kit clone of Hobgoblin called Gobhoblin but I can't see it in my copy of Graham's 3rd edition...

Please explain!
Planning - Not for a long while

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

Hmmm you've got me thinking now...Oh yes apologies its not GW's (sorry Graham!) Its a sort of Orfy's version, like I say it was missing the dextrine..

Ive renamed it Gobhoblin as my GF didnt like Nobgoblin....

Cool, I'm definitely going to have a crack at this one since my Styrians arrived in the post. So much to brew and so little space to store it in.

I made a batch of Orfy's Hobgoblin and I agree - its a brilliant recipe which gives great results, I bottled about 6 weeks ago now and it tastes lovely, but it does get better with some ageing.

I had a problem with mine in that it stuck at 1020 and I added another packet of NAY. Then due to impatience (and lack of vessels!) I bottled it two days after pitching the yeast.
Alls good so far, its conditioning nicely, a little yeasty but thats to be expected.
Its got a lovely round flavour to it and it is definately full bodied even though alcohol wise it is no where near as strong as the 5.3% Summer Lightning Ive just bottled!
Definately needs more time as it is far too sweet as well.....doesnt stop me opening the odd bottle for QA sake! :D
