BB2IPA

Post by pantsmachine » Sat Dec 12, 2009 3:44 pm

Just got back onshore to find one of my freezers has dropped out. Decide to turn a - into a + so i am planning on using my opened packs of hops in a IPA next week. Also wanting to try out the Glacier hops and the new goldings from the 09 crop. The recipe is roughly based around my last IPA 'Damn the expense'. For this one i have lowered the finished ABV, lightened it a fraction in colour and upped the hops by a good amount. Oh aye, also switched from Nottingham to US05 for my yeast. Apart from that its the same! :) Any input on the recipe most welcome, got a mate of mine who is going to brew for the 1st time next week and give me a hand. Looking forward to it and a good beer style to start him off on. To make it a bit more interesting, any suggestions on a hop to use for late hopping for a few days post ferment, much appreciated.

The hop most suggested will go in the fermenter so its up to you guys, finish my recipe for me. [-o<

I will say that this looks like a very interesting brew session indeed

I think that you need to add yourself some munich malt in order to give the brew more of a backbone to stand up to the hop attack that you have going on. Believe me, I am a lover of hops but please add the munich. [-o< [-o< :D I look forward to hearing how this one turns out. Glad to see that you have adopted the use of Double IPA it has a nice ring to it.

Cheers

I'll have a think about adding the Munich malt. I want this beer to be a slight as possible in colour so i have minimised the grain colour as much as i can. Last IPA was about 135IBU's ans was very drinkable from 6 months onwards. Hope this ones ready for Summer 10. I am still tweaking the volumes and might up it to a 7.5 gallon batch in a 'while i'm there sort of thing'.

Decide to up the batch volume as the hop fluid retention is going to be a big part of this one. Going for a 7 1/2 gallon batch and we'll see what i get at the end.

Tried very hard to keep my recipe within normal boundaries for an IPA so i can have a few pints of it. Just can't do it so gave in and went with the flow, so up went the ABV and kept IBU's at 200+. IPA's and IRS's the last hiding place for the stupidly exuberant. :D

Looking forward to tomorrow to get the brew on. Away to the garage to start my pre brew clean up.
