Maple Mild Recipe anyone?

Post by Manx Guy » Wed Dec 16, 2009 1:00 pm

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone has a tried and tasted receipe to emulate 'Marvelous Maple Mild'...?

I'd be interested in trying a small batch of an extract brew, but dont know how to go about the 'mapelising' of a mild...

The obvious answer is to add maple syrup- but how much and when/how?

Any advice or suggestions gratefully received :)

Well if the amounts are anything like honey, then try adding about 500g to a 23l brew.

This gives a slight honeyish hint. Given that maple syrup is more of a unique flavour, i would say you will probably notice it a bit more, so it should be just about right.

Actually this sounds great. I think i'll add it to my "to brew" list.

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for your input!

500g to a 23l brew.. thats helpfull.... Trouble is good quality MAple syrup is about £5-6 per 500g...

But worth a go maybe in smaller batches?

Many thanks!

Well, i'd be tempted not to use "good quality" stuff TBH!

Much of the flavour and practically all of the sugar will be lost in the brewing process, so i can't see that the quality of the syrup is going to make a huge difference.

The Tate and Lyle maple syrup is 94p per 454g at Tesco.

Hi Dave,

Ok, then thats what I'll use! as long as it doesn't have artificial sweeteners in it I cant imagine it will impart any unpleasant flavours...

:D

Maybe worth checking the label first then. It does seem suspiciously cheap for Maple syrup. Perhaps it's normal syrup with "maple flavouring".
