Quick turnaround ale?

Post by Bionicmunky » Tue Feb 24, 2009 8:44 pm

Hi All,

Does anybody have a recipe for a nice, but quick turn around ale?

My stocks are zero bar the AG I did a week or so ago but may need chucking due to effin fusils.

Thanks in advance,

John

something with a low OG eg 1038 - 40 and not a lot of IBUs usually does the trick, and maybe use S-04 or Nottingham

Hows about:

95% Pale malt + 5% Crystal to 1035

50/50 Fuggles & Goldings FWH to 20 IBUs
same 15min to 5 IBUs

S04

Hi

I highly recomend both Whorsts and my take on Whorst's quick bitter - drinking in 7 days!

Whorst:

My recipe is based on 60% mash efficiency. I've found that it completes fermentation in 3 days. Rack into corny with finings. If you don't add finings you'll be alright because 04 is so flocculent. The beer will still have CO2 in solution and will be nicely conditioned. I'm assuming you're serving with a beer engine? Cool it down 1-2 days before you serve at 10C. Vent before you serve and off you go.

3.18kg pale malt
.23kg dark crystal malt(120L)
.11 special roast(amber malt)
Hops of your choice to achieve 25-30 IBU's.

Below is a picture of the last bitter I brewed. Exactly 7 days old and delicious

I would agree with this recipe I do pretty much that for my stock bitter which is drinkable pretty quick.

I'd add that in my limited experience, I have found Amber Malt to take ages to mellow out properly - so I'd miss that out in a beer aimed for a quick turn....

Just bouncing this thread. I was looking for just this type of thing to try this weekend. Getting sick of waiting weeks for my beer to be ready. Into the corny at 3-4 days, ready in a week? Amazing!
Sommeliers recommend that you swirl a glass of wine and inhale its bouquet before throwing it in the face of your enemy.
