On finings .....

Post by leewink » Mon Mar 01, 2010 3:59 am

I am going to use Youngs finings, the orangey pack.

Says on it to add in the last few days of ferment.

I'm planning on one week primary then a week secondary, and i'll add to the secondary.

Does it matter technically, whether I add this at day one of the secondary, then bottle with sugars as normal, or leave it till day 5 ?

Personally i dont think it would, just asking to be sure though.

"Add to the beer after fermentation then stir gently and leave to stand for 2 days before bottling or barrelling. Then allow 2 – 3 weeks for the beer to carbonate."

Now unless its me here, the last comment of the above statement, sounds like the beer magically carbonates ? I take it im gonna still add bottling sugar yes ? and if so, thats a bloody stupid statement LOL :)

Almost reads as if it self carbonates, if it does this, im bloody stupid !! :)

cheers, lee

If you are going to bottle your beer there is no need for Finings.
Your bottles do need priming sugar to carbonate. :)
