I've used them as a late hop and found them rather nice!

Have you got any Challenger Mal? You could make a nice Summer Lightning Clone.

or just make a recipe to suit what you have, single hop brews often turn out great.

For a 23 litre batch for example, 4kg Pale, 150g Crystal to about 1038-40, then Goldings 40g at 90mins, 30g at 10mins, and then 20g at 0 mins. Obviously if you want to break into the second packet you could up the malt and the hops for a stronger brew.

100% Satisfaction from Marc Ollosson's book is just pale malt and EKG's but it is a fantastic pint (and one of my favourites too!).

Cheers fellas, i will give the single hop idea a try. I thought EKGs were used as late hop edition as borodave said. Not to worry, as long as its nice that the main thing

Cheers Mal

One of the only reasons that they're usually used as late additions is that there as other bittering hops that have three time the AA of Goldings, therefore making a brew cheaper to make. But they do fine as bittering, flavour and aroma.

OG 1040, 5-7% crystal, bittering to 30-35IBU and half ounce each at 15min, 0min and as a dry hop for 5 days before kegging/bottling. Can't go wrong - classic english style bitter.

I often make my house bitter with either pure goldings or pure fuggles. They are lovely on their own although a bit pricey. Give it a go you may be pleasantly suprised.

I made a purely EKG brew. It was very pleasant and easy drinking, if a bit simple.

I used 50g for 90 minutes, 25g for 15 mins.
