Black country nectar!
Black country nectar!
As a complete newbie would love to see if I can brew something that tastes like Bathams Best Bitter.By far my favourite brew! Does anyone have a recipe which I could follow...? My first AG which is Summer Lightning is at the primary fermentation stage and I'm almost tempted to start drinking it now!
Cheers in advance

That sounds like one I need to try, unfortunately not familiar with it. Hope someone can advise. Summer Lightning, now that's a favourite. Try the hydrometer sample in a couple of days, shame to waste it.
Maybe try hop and grain recipe database? Good luck

Cheers to everyones comments!
I ordered the bible (GW) over a week ago and it still ain't here! E-mailed Amazon and have had no reply!!!!!!
Beginning to get itchy fingers and contemplating doing something other than Bathams.
Any chance someone can give me a receipe for Bathams before I take a lucky dip and do something else...?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Bathams is also a favourite of mine
I made a few attempts at GW's recipe... sadly it never really tasted like the real thing. It's that 'nectar-y' flavour which is really hard to replicate!

Re: Black country nectar!
Just got mine from CAMRA's webshop - few quid off as a customer, as well as free entry to my local beer festival
Took about 5 days - I had previously ordered it from WHS, but cancelled it when they said it was being reprinted.
Had a laugh about the price Amazon wanted, so didn't go for them!

Thanks for that David,
After waiting a ridiculous amount of time for 'GW's bible' decided to chase this with Amazon last Thursday and now have a full refund so I think I'll order through CAMRA.
That said I'm really keen to see if I can create something as good as Batham's.....any tips from anyone out there who has had success.

Like any beer you'll need the right water (not a problem if you live in the same areas as Batham's don't have a well so have to to use the local South Staffs water as a base) and the right yeast, which sill probably be the biggest challenge. It's been quite a few years since I've been over to the b&b to sample their delights. Bostin stuff which kicks the sh*t out of a lot of other commercial beers especially some of the stuff that's raved about on this forum.Chris Tel wrote:That said I'm really keen to see if I can create something as good as Batham's.....any tips from anyone out there who has had success.
