Re: India Pale Ale
Actually, the bowling analogy is very appropriate. We even have club shirts being made that remind me of those league shirts you see on television with our club logo and a clever saying on the back. By the way, yes we have competative barbeque, competative chili cookoffs, competative fishing and I think they win awards for the biggest snakes at the rattle snake roundups, it's just a yankee thing and adds to our charm. I don't mean to make it sound like competative brewing is really all that serious although I know there are people that spend in excess of $300 for all their entries at just one contest. I do however know a few people who are so obcessed with the competative side of things that they actually brew styles they don't really like just to win stuff, I really don't get that at all. Mostly though, it is just semi-clean fun and an excuse to drink beer.
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)

And why not? I remember playing poker with a load of Texan & Louisiana boys in Kazaksthan in 1993. Very competitive for real low dollar. More pleasure seemed to be gained from slagging off each others play than winning the pot. A good way to spend a long cold night!
