1st simple AG ideas

Post by Spud395 » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:42 pm

I'm looking at this as a first simple venture into AG.

I'm more or less stuck with these ingredents and wondering what kind of a beer I'll get.

Am hoping for a light lager style ale, maybe a bit heavey on the hops??
Please say what you think.

Might have a little chochlate malt although I dont think there's a place for it there.
Also maybe a few Saaz hops to finish???

Sounds like a nice summer ale (many brewers use lighter lager malts for their lightest ales). Suggest you cut back on the crystal malt as 11% is pretty high for this style and may be a bit prominent, <5% would be better. Would could finish with some saaz, which wouldn't be too bad with styrians bit I'd stick with the single hop in this case. Should be a good'un!
Next Up : Something for the summer
Primary : Nothing
Secondary / Conditioning : Nothing
Drinking : Mosaic IPA

Nice one CC, I'll cut back the crystal to 250g and stick with the stryians so.

Hey Spud, i'm a complete novice so my thoughts should probably be confirmed with someone who knows what they're doing. Was thinking about moving the hops about a bit to get more flavour and aroma, perhaps something like 60 mins 40%, 15 mins 25%, 0 mins 25%, dry hop with 10% for maybe a week during primary?

If anyone could give me some thoughts on this hop profile i'd be interested to see if i'm on the right track. I'm trying to get more aroma and flavour from the hops, cos I like light hoppy summer ales when its warm, n think this is how this recipe could be done to achieve that.
