does anyone have a good recipe using amarillo hops ?
Hi folks , i am planning to create a brew which will be something similar to our local micro Crouch Vales "Amarillo " 5%abv . I think the smell and spicys i get from this beer are fantastic . I think there may be some coriander used as well . Any suggestions on a recipe are welcomed

Wow I came on here intending to research/ask the same. I had some of this at a couple of festivals this summer and it was fantastic.
I have just put on my final two kits and have already done my first all grain (where the ingredients were supplied as a kit, if you see what I mean) So I am now getting ideas for my first "proper" AG.
I want something quite simple (taste wise) so I can appreciate the ingredients. BUT I want to really go overboard with the hops, almost burn the mouth kind of bitter hoppiness. I am also after at least a 5.0% so the above instructions sound good.
Look forward to any more comments/suggestion.

I can vouch that Rob makes some great beers. Give that one a try.

Re: does anyone have a good recipe using amarillo hops ?
I brew this a lot; in fact I brewed it yesterday too. Not an Amarillo clone but is a single hop brew using amarillo hops:
Pale Malt 4.9 KG
Crystal Malt 0.5 KG
TORREFIED WHEAT 0.250 KG
35 EBU
Amarillo 30 Grams 60 minutes
Amarillo 15 Grams 15 minutes
Amarillo 15 Grams Flame Out
Yeast: - S.04
Makes 23 litres at about 5.5% abv.
60 min mash
60 min boil
A fair few people have tasted this and all say it is the best of my beers. In fact one of my mates, and fellow Jim's member (OneillDave) reckons it's his favourite beer of all time! Not sure about that myself though; I like it a lot but it's not my favourite.

If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

Could try the Stone Levitation recipe on the Brewing Network website - Can You Brew It programme series. That uses Amarillo hops I believe.

Re: does anyone have a good recipe using amarillo hops ?
I knocked out an Amarillo 'SMaSH' a few weeks ago. It's drinking now and I have to say... it's a cracking 'food' beer'
Recipe, method and pictures for 'Le Transatlantique' - Amarillo SMaSH.
It's a great food beer. Good astringency and powerful citrus notes from the hops - worked superbly well with an epic Gambas piri-piri last weekend.

This was the recipie for my last one (no4), also was planned to be a nice relaxing summer barbeque beer:)
... and it is! I'm very happy with how it turned out, nice fruity/spicy taste but quite warm and mellow. If I did it again (and probably will) I'd maybe try up the Amarillo flavour/aroma in it, also use some finnings which I forgot
while getting too excited over dry hopping. If it was clearer it would be a lovely dark red.
Pale Malt 5 EBC 5100 grams 86.4%
Crystal Malt 130 EBC 125 grams 2.1%
Caramunch 90 EBC 565 grams 9.6%

The first beer I ever had with amarillo was bittered with simcoe, yum.
I'm just here for the beer.
