New Recipe- Autumn Sunset

Post by JabbA » Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:00 pm

I've come to the end of a sack of golden promise and thought I'd throw together the recipe below. Hoping for light-ish (may have to hold back on the crystal a tad!), malty, quite hopy number.

Will be using a packet of US-05 to do the magic.

Any comments will be most welcome!

I think you're right on the crystal, cut it back a lot if you want light.

I recently brewed one with 250g of crystal (5.9% of the grist) with lager, munich and wheat malt and it turned out pretty amber/red.
16% crystal is high AFAIK, I do like about 20% Munich all right

You are brewing along the lines that I've been trying for blonde/golden ales. The lager malt lightens the colour of the pale malt and munich gives a golden colour but less maltiness than you might expect, so in terms of look the beer should have a good colour. I assume the crystal is for some body and to add back malt flavour lost due to the introduction o f the lager malts. I find carapils works well in replacing crystal in light coloured beers, it doesn't affect the colour and adds a noticeable maltiness
