Hopback Summer Lightning

Post by Grahamf4 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:32 pm

Hey there chaps and chapesses. I am thinking of brewing an AG version of the above mentioned beer using the recipe supplied in Graham's Wheeler's book; BYORA. Has anyone used the recipe and if so what yeast would be advisable and what water treatment if any?

Ta very much

Graham

Water treatment will depend on your local water. I did this recipe with Whitelabs WLP002 English which turned out good. I think some of hopback bottled beers are bottle condition but don`t know if the yeast is suitable for capturing

yes. Make a solution of 10g dme in 100ml water. Boil for 10 mins, put it in a sterilized jar. Let it cool. In the meantime, open the bottle, pour into a glass, except for the last dregs. Swirl vigs around and tip into the dme solution. Shake like mad as often as possible.
After a couple of days, make another solution of 100g in 1 litre, tip the contents of the small glass into this. Thats it.

Got some in secondary as we speak, so hopefully will turn out nice from reviews. Any how i read some where dont shoot me as i read it elsewhere that it isn't worth reusing the yeast as the brewery use s04.

Hi edgearsenal
I dont think it's S04, A lot of people on here reculture Hopback yeast. Dont think so many would bother if it is S04. Maybe someone has some info on it. Im gonna be gutted if it is.
