Post by LegTaste » Thu Apr 07, 2011 3:10 pm

Edit: i thought i searched the forum, but i actually forgot to and ended up posting first
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=38514&hilit=Fremlins&start=15

Wondered if any recipes exists or if there are any people who remember what it was like and can recommend a recipe.

I'm not hopeful, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I'm far too young to have tasted it, but my nan always mentions it when she talks about the war and such things, we're arranging a party for her and i thought it would be good to try and brew up something similar for the occasion.

What a marvelous present that would be! A great label too. Good luck!

Didn't Whitbread take over Fremlins and market this as "Whitbread's English Ale", very similar label as well.

I've an analysis of the beer from 1967:

OG: 1048.1
FG: 1003.5

So a very highly-attenuated beer.

It would appear the beer was much weaker than that going from the thread i linked to.

But then the whitbread version under their own brand was 5.4%, and to confuse things more so the more recent Shepherd Neame version was 3.5%, not sure what to go with.

Had this fermenting since Saturday, had a bit of a taste, i think its going to be a bit watery (although the taste isn't bad). I can't say i'm surprised though, the recipe was a bit worrying, but i decided to risk it.

Save throwing it away i'll probably brew up a batch of something strong and try a bit of blending.
