I've got a recipe I'm thinking of, but having not used the hop combination or the late hop concerned in a pale ale, I thought I'd stick it out there and see if anyone has experience of anything similar. The idea is:-
Pale malt 4731g
Wheat malt 249g
EKG 50g 90mins
Saaz 20g 15mins
Saaz 15g 5mins
Saaz 15g 80c steep 30mins
Yeast - Brewlabs Somerset 1
This gives an OG of 1045, and 33IBU's. Now I haven't used Saaz in an ale, but can't see why it wouldn't work, or wouldn't work with EKG. Anyone tried something like this, and if so, what can I expect?
Pondering a new recipe
Re: Pondering a new recipe
The Hilden Brewery in Northern Ireland do a pale ale called Silver that's designed to appeal to lager drinkers. As far as I know it includes First Gold, Challenger and Saaz in the recipe. I was thinking of doing something similar myself to appeal to my lager drinking mates. Do it and let us know how you get on

Will do Liam. This has come about as a result of my wheat beer that's due for bottling. I used Saaz in that, and as a result have 50g left. So, I'll brew this up next (yeast is due from Brewlabs today/tomorrow) and try to remember to post details of the outcome.
