IPA with EKG?

Post by LeJimster » Fri Mar 23, 2012 2:55 pm

Can someone point me to a good English IPA recipe with East Kent Goldings + one other hop.

I'll be using 4kg pale malt (AG) possibly some crystal. I just need some good hop additions etc =).

Thanks!

Hi!

Not sure you'll get a very high OG with 4kilo of pale malt unless your efficiency is 80%+
But you could try, the following nice and simple recipe
96% Pale Malt
2% crystal
2% white sugar (added to the boil late on)

Challenger to 30 IBU 60/90 min

EKG to 10IBU 15 mins from end of boil

EKG 30g at flame out

Use some brewing software (Like beer engine - downloadable from the links area on this forum) to get a BU:GU ratio of 0.9-1.0 depending on what your known or predicted efficiency is...
Obviuos ly if your efficency is high you may want to increase the bittering addition to get you in the above BU:GU range...

Hope that helps

Guy

Thanks, will take a look!
I haven't done tons of All Grain brews, but I would say my efficiency has been around 78% in my last couple of batches I do believe.

Any reason for the white sugar over brown? I've seen brown sugar used in some IPA's before to add flavour.

EK and challenger are one of my favourite combination.

Hi
No reason why white specifically, it's neutral in flavour and colour, it adds a few points to the OG and also dries the beer out a little.
By all means try brown sugar or unrefined but dont godown the treacle route in an IPA!
:)

Good luck & happy brewing!
