All I seem to brew are IPA's so I woundered if anyone had a recipe for a nice bitter? I have the following ingredients

WGV 74g
First Gold 105g
Fuggles 100g
Magnum 84g
Cascade 24g
Challenger 80g
Citra 40g

Crystal Malt 300g
Pale Malt 4kg
Black Malt 400g
Chock 450g
Caramalt 270
Wheatmalt 340
Torrified Wheat 430

Safale S04 and S05

Something around the 4.3% would be perfect.

My stock bitter which is really nice is:

4kg Pale Malt
300g Crystal Malt
300g Flaked barley

Bittered to about 36 ebu with challenger hops and finished with bramling cross. 4.3% on the dot with my standard 75% efficency.

I'd suggest the same minus the flaked barley would give a good pint with s04, for hopping I really like single hop first gold beers like Goldminer so thats what i'd go for!

94% pale ale
4% crystal
1.5% wheat
.5% black

Challenger to bitter
Fuggles to flavour and aroma

S04

There's your bog standard bitter.

As the above recipes! Pale malt, up to 5-10% crystal. Some wheat if you like. Aim for a IBU:OG ratio of about 0.8. Do not use Citra or Cascade, unless you're adding a very small amount for aroma.

I really like WGVs too. A mix of WGV and Challenger would be a nice choice, Fuggles for aroma perhaps.
