I've been thinking of trying somthing subtle but interesting rather than going for a big hop flavour.
I'm thinking:
90% MO (base)
5% Black Patent (Smokey, Dark but not sweet)
5% Dex (Dry)
Then single hop Perle @ 30-40 IBU (spicy, slightly citrus)
Any thoughts? anyone tried anything similar?
How do you think this would work?
Re: How do you think this would work?
I've done several single hopped brews and will do more.
Not used perle at all, I also use a different grain bill but see nothing wrong with yours either

Perle adds noticeable but very delicate spicy/minty flavour even lower, at ~25 IBU. Perfect for summer brews - light, 1.042 or close.
Never tried higher than ~30 IBU, might be bit tart as it was bred from German Northern Brewer which has this unpleasant character in higher amounts (at least to me). But I also heard that Zum Uerige altbier is hopped with Perle only to well over 30 IBU and there's no such tartness.
I'd say, try this and report back the result.
