Saaz Lager-Ale

Post by kane » Thu May 24, 2012 10:57 pm

Hi guys,
So for AG#13 i was planning on making a duvel type clone this week , however with the recent weather I think id prefer something a little less strong and more thirst quenching

I have ~5kg of lager malt, but im happy to use pale malt instead and I also have 100g saaz.
The only yeasts I have on hand are US-05 and S04 so im not aiming for a true lager.

I'd like to aim for an OG of ~1.035-1.040, do people think a brew of this strength will be ok with just pale malt and saaz?
What sort of IBU should I be aiming for?

This will only be the second recipe I have attempted that wasnt out of a book so go easy on me  my last brew was a cascade/EKG affair that turned out ok for my first attempt at a recipe i think.

Cheers guys,
Kane

How does this look:

Brew length: 25L
Estimated OG: 1.040

Pale malt: 4000g
Torrified Wheat: 400g

Start of Boil: 50g Saaz (35 EBU)
Last 10 minutes of boil: 10g Saaz
Flameout: 10g Saaz

Yeast: US-05

Cheers,

I think you could afford to be a bit more ham-fisted with the Saaz at the end of your brewing. I've done 12l with 20g of Saaz at 10min and flame out with very pleasing results.
I did something like Dave Line's Kronenbourg recipe, with Saaz and honey, and it was a delight.
