Hi everyone
just thought i would post this recipe for a coopers dark ale kit,
Ingredients = 1.7kg coopers dark ale kit
1 kg Dark DME
500 grams amber DME (had in stock)
500 grams Malto dextrin
Muntons Gld yeast
brew length was around 24 litres as i over shot the level
Brewed this on 23rd june 2012 with a original gravity of 1050 or there abouts at 25 degs C with a final gravity of 1020 at 22 degs c ABV around 4.2%, femented at 21/22 degs C constant, racked into 2nd FV on 5th day as advised by muntons and kegged on 14th day of primary fermantation 7th july 2012 using 85 grams of Dark brown muscavardo sugar. Put into shed for secondary fermentation using builders bucket with barrel inside it and water cooled using ice packs every 12 hours, builders bucket was wrapped with thick insulation ie hot water tank insulation jacket, was`nt easy to control the tempreture but managed to keep it between 47 degs f and 58 degs f.
The result is - i have started to drink this brew today, well its friday night and its hot and thats enough reason for me to give this baby an opening night,
I will tell you now that i dont have a great nose for explaining what i can smell but what i can tell you is that this beer is as smooth as a babies bum and thats how i like my beer like silk in the mouth and this brew ticks those boxes for sure, if i paid £2.50 a pint for this in my local then i would,nt be moving on in a hurry. Its as clear as a bell and has a great creamy head not washing up bubble head but real creamy head, now just to let you all know this was just my 6th brew and i am over the moon at the result i have got. got to say this dark ale is a great kit and will be on my brew list as a regular.
i am sure there are others of you out there who have brewed this kit to different recipe and its been good so if you feel like shareing your recipe please post a reply i would appreciate it.
when i figure out how to put a picture on here i will post one asap

Re: coopers dark ale
a very nice kit. did it last time straight with 1 kg dark spraymalt...lush. Next time am thinking of going 25g progress hops 1/2 hr boil + 15 min steep sovereign thenmaybe dry hop with my fav aroma hop liberty. Just for something different. But this is IMO coopers almost best kit after the APA. Good on its own but malleable to a brewers taste
Just like trying new ideas!
