Pumpkin Ale

Post by smdjoachim » Sat Oct 20, 2012 10:28 am

I have bought a pumpkin for Halloween.
Instead of throwing away the flesh I plan on using it in a beer.
Has any body made a great pumpkin beer and care to share a recipe?
It would be nice to here a few opinions from our American cousins.

I've never made one but I did sample a few pints of this year's brew at The Foundry Brew Pub in Canterbury on Thursday. Very subtle and rather gorgeous.

Do you add the pumpkin to the mash, boil, fermenter, HLT all of these?
Also have read that roasting the pumpkin with sugar adds another dimension.

I, brewed one I wouldn't recommend a jack lantern pumpkin they aren't sweet enough, use a butter nut squash and roast it first with sugar.

But this was where I got the idea http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/richard ... ale-23489/
