afternoon all,
I am planning to have a crack from my shiny Graham Wheeler book (British Real Ale). What yeast do you think I should use ideally to get the closer to the real thing?
thanks in advance
Wilf

Re: what yeast Camerons strongarm
I don't know anything about which yeast strain the actual Camerons Strongarm brewer uses, and sadly, I've never actually tasted this one. However, I know it's only 4% ABV and most people describe it as complex, full-bodied, with a residual sweetness in the aftertaste. Therefore, I'd think a high-attenuating strain like US-05/Chico, S-04/Whitbread-B, Nottingham, etc, would dry it out too much. I'd recommend a low-medium attenuating strain such as Windsor or WLP002/Fullers.

+1 for Windsor.
I think the Fullers might be going too far. It's been a while since I had any Strongarm, but I used to drink it a lot and don't remember it having such strong yeast flavours as Fullers ales.

Sometimes I get the biggest kick out of some of the comments I read on these forums. The phrase "knock up" has a much different meaning on this side of the pond.

Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)

Re: what yeast Camerons strongarm
Thanks very much again.
I'll certainly make some enquiries as brewlab is just around the corner.
How long a shelf life do live yeasts have? sadly my brew day or rather night is dependent on small children going to bed on time etc finishing in the early hours so any live yeast will have to be ready to go when the opportunity arises. I think I'll get some windor as a back up.
cheers
