I had a short brewday yesterday and fancied a strongish darker bitter. Having a had a beer before i started I felt a little adventureous and rather made this one up as I went along using what came to hand. I think in hindsight I could have increased the amber malt a bit, but othe than that, any thoughts on how it might turn out or what might have worked better?

I only use sugar in higher gravity beers, but other than that this looks good.TheSheeprug wrote:I had a short brewday yesterday and fancied a strongish darker bitter. Unrefined cane sugar, reduced and made into blocks. Anyone know what its yield is?Rookie wrote:It's a sugar.Spikesdad wrote:What on earth is Jaggery?

Basically unrefined cane sugar, possibly with palm sap and coconut added. It has a rich dark sugar/molasses flavour. Available from Indian/Caribbean shops.Spikesdad wrote:What on earth is Jaggery?
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaggery
Randy Mosher recommends it in Radical Brewing and I thought I'd give it a try - as you do!
