is this right ?

Post by beer today » Sun Feb 17, 2013 10:58 am

I am looking to replicate the following snpa, for 19 litres
4.6kg pale
0.30 pale crystal, 60.
4.4 aau perl for 90mins(14g)
6 aau cascade for 45 (28g)
cascade at 0 mins 43g

my aaus are somewhat different, so does this seem right ?
38 litres
9.2 kg pale
0.60 pale crystal, 60.
9.4 aau perl 90 mins 13g
7.4 aau Cascade 45 mins 45g
Cascade at 0 mins 86g

got the hlt on, should have checked this out sooner, doh !

You need the same AAU in 38ltr as 19. You will just need to use more hops as there is more beer to get up to that AAU.

Thinking about it I may be totally wrong there.

thanks barney, what I am getting at is my Perle aaus are 9.4, hence 9.4aau x 13=122 for my 38 litre, against the 19 litre 4.4 aau x14= 61, is it that simple ?

woaaah hold on a minute, dont put any in yet let me work it out
what are the AA of your perl and the AA of your Cascade.

DO NOT GET Alpha Acid % and AAU mixed up.

the original recipe hops were.

Perle 8.8% (4.4AAU=14g, 1/2 oz so 1oz/28g=8.8 aa )

cascade 6%

The calculation is 28/your hop AA% * AAU required by recipe

you need 8.8 AAU of Perle and 12 AAU of cascade. this method of calculation, AAU, allows for variation year to year in the hops.,

I hope that helps a bit.
