Inspired by the lunar eclipse in March - when I was doing my 2nd AG and getting pissed on the first, I decided to brew a beer which had a redder than usual colour and bought some 'cara red' form H&G for this purpose.
I'm not to chuffed with the first attempt, so will see if further conditioning improves things. I might serve it a bit warmer as well, see if i can eak out a bit more from it.
I'd really like to have something a bit like Shepherd Neames 'Goldings' beer, but a bit redder and perhaps with a head.
Anyway - next batch 65% efficiency and 23L brewlength.
5Kg Maris Otter
250g torrefied wheat (for head)
250g cara red (for red)
200g chocolate wheat (for depth)
250g crystal 60 (for depth)
I thought I'd go for 66C for 60 mins
then I've got Goldings hops and Brewers Gold - How do you think I might really make the biggest citrus effect with them - perhaps a few BG for bitterness, then half the goldings for 15 and the other half steeped???
