Carapils substitute for Ghostship?

Post by orlando » Sat Jun 08, 2013 8:02 am

Ovenhiker has very generously supplied me with a vial of Adnam's yeast (very carefully packaged) =D> . I have everything to brew this but Carapils, I'm thinking of substituting with Munich and need some ideas for proportions. Also don't have any Motueka so looking for another hop to substitute for this (not going to be anything like it is it  )

I have of course slanted and plated the yeast to see if I can spot the 2 strains under the microscope.

Drinking: Southwold Again,

Up Next: John Barleycorn (Barley Wine)

Glad it made it to you. Out of interest, when did it arrive?

I've just posted my Ghostly Pale Ale up in Brewdays which has some links to info that might help.

Citra seems to be the prominent hop, with it's lemon and lime. I believe Motueka is supposed to have noticeable lemon and lime too. Sticking to something citrusy might work.

Hi Kevin,

Apologies for not saying thanks earlier, I was waiting to take some pictures of the slants and plates. It arrived on Thursday I think and was "processed" the same day. I will be stepping the rest of the vial tomorrow for a brew Tuesday or Wednesday. If it looks really good I will top crop as well, would like another crack at their best bitter.

Checked the slants and they are already growing, the plate is a little behind but I use a really tiny amount for that in an attempt to get close to just a very few cells. Will have a look at the yeast in the vial you sent and may even do a yeast count, very tedious :(
