Inspiration

Post by calumrobertson » Mon Jun 03, 2013 12:31 pm

Hi,
Looking for a bit of inspiration as I've brewed a few single IPAs recently which have been good...also brewed a Kahtutu Galaxy PA/IPA which is fermenting away. Ive a bunch of hops needing used up but at a creative dry spell as to which to use and how to combine them in my next beer...something hoppy though is a must...just looking for ideas of combos that people have found work. I've got:

Simcoe
Mosaic
Stella
Galaxy (only like 20g)
Pacific Jade
Nelson Sauvin
Chinook
Columbus

About a 100gs of each (apart from the Galaxy).

Any good recipe ideas with that lot. Also got MO, Crystal, Munich, Vienna and Carapils.

Thanks!

Sounds like the makings of a Brewdog Punk IPA to me.

It's not terribly specific, but here's what I've gathered. I don't know the timing of the hops additions, though.

BrewDog Punk IPA
BrewDog - Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
ABV: 5.6%
IBU: 45
Colour: golden, some chill haze
Grainbill: 100% Maris Otter Extra Pale Malt
Hops: Simcoe, Ahtanum, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin (previously contained Crystal, Motoeka as well)

Personally, I still prefer IPAs with some malt complexity, such as (this should at least jump-start your imagination again):

Abita Jockamo IPA: Pale, CaraRed Malt, Pale Crystal Malt
Avery IPA: 94% Pale, 4% Munich Malt, 2% Crystal 120L Malt
Bell's Two Hearted Ale: 82% Pale, 11% Vienna, 4% Crystal 20L Malt, 3% CaraPils/Dextrine Malt?
Creemore Springs Hops & Bolts IPA: Pale, Cara 40L Malt, CaraRed Malt, Melanoidin Malt
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA: 97.2% Pale, 8% Amber Malt
Founders All Day Session IPA: Barley, Wheat, Corn, Oats
Goose Island India Pale Ale: 92% Pale, 8% Munich
Green Flash West Coast IPA: 84% Pale, 8% Carastan Malt, 8% CaraPils/Dextrine Malt
Lagunitas IPA: 75% Pale, 7.1% Pale Crystal Malt, 7.1% Munich Malt, 3.6% Crystal Malt, 3.6% Victory Malt, 3.6% Wheat
Mikkeler Single Hop IPA series: 67% Pilsener Malt, 11% Crystal Malt, 11% Munich II Malt, 11% Flaked Oats
Northern Brewer Chinook IPA: 91% Pale, 6.8% CaraPils/Dextrine Malt, 2.2% Dark Crystal Malt
Russian River Hop 2 It Trial: 74% American Two-Row Pale, 13% Maris Otter, 10% Crystal 120L, 3% Aciduated Malt
Schlafly Hop Trial: Pale, Pilsener Malt, CaraPils/Dextrine Malt
Seymourillo (Amber IPA): 80% Pale, 8.9% Vienna, 2.2% Steel Cut Oats, 8.9% Dark Brown Cane Sugar
Stone IPA: 88% Pale, 12% Pale Crystal Malt?
