Zombie Dust

Post by Barley Water » Mon Feb 25, 2013 11:03 pm

I post this as a public service from your friends from across the pond. I watched one of my buddies brew this over the weekend and I know you guys want to get out there a bit. 3 Floyds calls this stuff a pale ale but it is really a hop bursted IPA. Now without further ado the recipe:

84.38% American 2 row malt
10.42% Carahell malt
5.21% 40L crystal malt

you should be shooting for an O.G. of about 1.066

.25oz Citra 13.9% AA first wort hopped
.75oz Citra 13.9%AA for 15 minutes
1.00oz Citra 13.9% for 10 minutes
1.00oz Citra 13.9% 5 minutes
1.00oz Citra 13.9% 0 minutes

wait for it......
4.00oz Citra 13.9% dry hop for 7 days

Fermented with WLP02 at about 65F
Single Infustion mash about 152F for at least an hour.
You should end up with roughly 50 IBU's of bitterness (I personally would try to bump it to 60 myself but that's just me).
I watched a friend do this over the weekend and although I have not brewed it myself or tasted it yet....hey, how can you miss? Anyway, if you want to brew like an American this would be something interesting to try. Enjoy. :D
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)

Oh sorry about that, sometimes I forget this forum is metric. Anyhow that's for a standard American 5 gallon batch. By the way, I'll see the guy that brewed this over the weekend and try to find out how it's going with the batch I saw him brew (and if possible secure a sample to taste test). Naturally, I'll report back once I know something more.

I brewed something very similar to this about a month ago, tried it from a poly and it was great. The only problem is I'm giving most of it away as wedding favours. Will have to brew this again soon.

Sorry still have not had a chance to try it although assuming some is still around I may get an opportunity this weekend. The guy that brewed it told me he was a little underwhelmed but I really want to taste it myself. :D

just sorta did this... except as a smash, and with EXP 366 hops instead. they are said to be citra like. racked it off and dry hopped last night. it was supposed to be 60 ibu's, but tasted like way more. tho that could have been cus we messed up the mash and only hit 64c. however, it still tasted pure class!
