Post by jimp2003 » Sun Aug 18, 2013 11:11 pm

I have just had a bottle of this and it is fantastic! Massive roastiness combining with the US hops.

This recipe is reputed to come from the brewery so I thought I would post it in case anyone is interested and also for my own reference in time.

Dark Horse Special Black Ale

7.5% ABV

Recipe based on 19l brewlength and 75% efficiency and 80% apparent attenuation from the yeast.

Grain
Pale Malt - 4200g
Crystal- 77 - 520g
Crystal - 45- 520g
Chocolate- 520g
Roasted Barley - 226g
Black - 113g

Hops
Ctz - 90 min - 18g
Ctz - 30 min - 12g
Ctz - end of boil - 15g

Sac rest 67 C for 45 min
sparge temp 75 C

Boil time 90 min

Yeast - Nottingham fermented at 16 degrees C

Cheers!
