Well looks like the experiment is over unfortunately - they have started selling alcohol again (weaved through the reasons is some quite interesting psychology) so tonight I had two particularly terrible draught Cobras! I would like to try the "Ultimate Curry Beer", but information on it seems a little hard to come by on Google...
It became quite clear straight away that this is all very very subjective, particularly when you consider the vast array of flavours that make up the many many meals that we just blanket call "curry" (see also Rick Stein's excellent series that has been shown since my original post)
My conclusion for what it is worth is that I prefer something lighter, malty didn't seem to really work for me, strong is a definite no no - any stronger than a Cobra is not suitable for guzzling during a quiet meal with the wife on a school night! Less sweet seems to be the way to go, perhaps not dry per se, something middling. Hopping is an interesting subject however, I didn't experiment too much, I don't think heavily hopped is the way to go though as you are already looking to be bombarded by spice and flavour!
All in all though, this was a great chance to try something different, a fine reason to try brewing a different style, incite a healthy debate... and all while someone else does the washing up
Thanks for the ideas!
