I'm planning a Green Hop Ale tomorrow, so far I've not designed my own recipes; I've used clone recipes scaled for BIAB using the BIABacus. Therefore I used a previous recipe I made and fiddled about with it, using up some Cara malts I had left over. I plan to use Northern Brewer to bitter and then use loads of green hops very late on/flame out - though the quantities I'm unsure on?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm greener than the hops I'll be using!!

Use ten times what you normally would at that stage.

Re: Green Hop Ale - Advice Needed
yeah, I've read some links someone posted to the questions I asked about green hops in Grain Brewing Questions & Answers
I was going to use maybe 200g split between 10 mins & flame out - though I don't really know what I'm doing?
Also I'm looking for advice on the grain bill, is that too many Cara malts, am I missing something out which would be better - I have most other popular malts?

Re: Green Hop Ale - Advice Needed
I would just use standard caramalt if you have it, about 8% of your grain bill. What variety are you using green? The brews I have just done were hop mashed, FWH and a shed load in about 10mins. It's not that advisable to use green at flame out in order to boil off any bugs (6 legged variety) that may still be present in the hops. Last additions minimum 5 mins are best, depending on how much green you have you can just put them in around 15mins and get all the bitterness and aroma you need. But if you want to err on the side of caution then by all means bitter with a variety you know the AA% of. It will taste great either way but more hoppiness does come through in an all green brew. Drink within 3 months to maintain the flavours, less if possible. ;o)

Thanks for the advice, had to can this brew alas, when I went to blokes house (he doesn't brew) to pick the hops they were all brown and well past it; shame I was looking forward to it - plus I'd given him 4 bottles as a swap before I found out!!
