Mild & Wild

Post by Matt » Tue Oct 29, 2013 8:34 pm

Just mashed this in for a brew evening. SWMBO and SWMBO jnr away for the night, plenty of ales on board, I hope I maintain enough concentration =P~

Mild & Wild
3kg Mild ale malt
600g medium crystal
200g wheat malt
50g choc malt
50g roasted barley

Wild hops - tested with a hop tea and they are EKG I believe and I'm pinning at 5%AA because they were less bitter than a hop tea made with my 6.2% Fuggles.

FWH 30g
5 mins 30g*

* radical late hop addition [-X

OG 1036
IBU 21
WLP017 Whitbread II

Loving the look of that recipe Matt!

Have you used that yeast strain before? I have used WLP002 for my last couple of milds and, although I really like it, I found that the yeast character was a bit too up front on the last brew. So I might use the 017 in my next attempt.

Good luck with the brew and keep us posted of progress.

Cheers!

Cheers Jim. No this is my first try with it, I'll let you know how it goes - should be ready quickly.

I just tasted some of the starter flask and it's definitely fruity, as per the description at WL

My brew buddy in the garage tonight is a friendly false widow spider
