English Ale

Post by Jim » Mon Jan 17, 2005 10:39 pm

This is an all grain beer, with a lovely traditional English flavour from the fuggles hops.

Grist:

3.7kg Pale Malt (preferably Marris Otter)
250g Crystal Malt

Mash in 2.75 Gal (English) liquor at 67 deg C for 90 minutes (aim for pH around 5.2)

Hop Schedule:

Bittering: 50g Fuggles (4%) + 10 Challenger (8%).

Late: 5 g Fuggles (15 minutes from end of boil)

Is this recipe for 19L or 23L?
Is it the grown up version of the mini mash at http://www.18000feet.com/minimash/page1.htm?
I have tried the mini mash and am awaiting the results.

Thanks

I'm just after a 'basic' beer recipe when I try the full size mash! I don't know enough about grains and hops to fettle another recipe so I am looking for a starting point.
Is there a 'must have' book for all grain. I know there is a lot of info on the forum and on the net but I do like physical old fashioned print. With Fathers Day in the next couple of months I can get an order in!
