Amarillo beer

Post by Chrissyr63 » Mon May 05, 2014 10:42 pm

Hi all,

yesterday I started what I thought would be a simple single hop brew (this might be better in Brewday but no pics)

4.7kg MO
235g Carapils
200g Amarillo hops spread over 60 mins (same schedule as below)

then I found I only had 3.1kg of MO left and only 100g Amarillo so changed to:

3.1kg MO
1.6kg Munich malt
235g Carapils
19g Magnum 60
15g Amarillo 15
15g Amarillo 5
70g Amarillo 0

hop weights are to keep to the same IBU

Next issue was that the FV I had lined up to put this in had a big crack in it so had to leave the beer in the boiler overnight (after chilling it down!).
OG was 1.060 after boil so added 1 lt of boiled water when into the FV in the morning

So was hoping to follow the oringinal recipe from Home Brew Beer (Greg Hughes) but seesm to ended up with something completely different.
Do people know what the addition of the Munich Malt will do to the brew?
Leaving in the boiler over night (lid on)?
Assume bittering hops of Magnum shouldn't cause too much of an issue.
Oh and will be with S05 at 18c for 2 weeks.

Oh also forgot to say - meant to mash at 65c for 60mins but this turned out to be for 3 hrs (but did get my 65c) - nothing to plan!
Then two 20 min sparges at 69c and 75c.

I bet it's gonna be great no matter what. How's it coming?

Cheers!

Hi Seymour,

Well I bottled/minikegged it on Sunday - dregs from bottling bucket tasted nice so fingers crossed! Always try an do a 2 wks warm , 2 wks cool but temp is picking up here so just left it all out in the 'brewery' (wife thinks it's some sort of utility room!) which seems to be about 16-18c at the moment. Primed with 90g of sugar so hopefully temp doesn't increase and start exploding!
Might just be 2 wks there and the fridge and start drinking.
