Single hop smoked stout with centennial
Re: Single hop smoked stout with centennial
not my cup of tea. Smoke and citrus is not a flavour combo I enjoy.
Re: Single hop smoked stout with centennial
Most stouts and porters have strong coffee and/or chocolate flavours, so that's why I think british hops work well with them; berry fruits, marmalade, some spiceyness etc.
Whereas pine or grapefruit doesn't go as well with them imo
It's all personal preference really
forgot about the smoke too, I'd guess spicey/woody etc would all go better with that

I'm breaking boundaries. I'm inventing a new flavor. I'm creating a hybrid.
Or I'm making a mess?
Brewing a small batch is a good idea actually.

Maybe try warrior hops

Maybe try Chinook - I heard it adds a bit of smokiness though maybe better in a Porter? I have a stout in my fv right now with Chinook so give it a couple of weeks and I can give a more considered view. Think I got the tip on this forum so I cant pass it off as my own idea!

Re: Single hop smoked stout with centennial
Why not brew a large batch with English hops then draw off a few litres and dry hop them with C hops? I do it a lot. The 5litre water bottles are perfect. I cut a grommet-sized hole in the top and stick an airlock in. If you did more than one 5l bottle you could do some comparisons.gibbiem wrote:Brewing a small batch is a good idea actually.
