Mosaic recipe

Post by lord.president » Thu Aug 28, 2014 7:05 pm

Hi all, planning my first 'own brand' recipe 'Mosaic Gyle'

5kg Maris Otter
270g Medium crystal

58g FWH
28g 60 mins
28g 15 mins
58g 7 day dry hop
WLP 0001 yeast

FG 1051
OG 1012
5.1 %
IBU 61

Any thoughts on how crap this could be! Thanks.

Looks v good, more bitter than I usually brew but that might suit your palate.

That will be lovely. I would replace the crystal with wheat myself.

Super-fruity but I prefer to add something citrusy to balance out the sweetness.

Yeah I agree with the previous poster; that hop can get to be a little much, I'd cut it with something. Also, an APA over here is usually about 40 IBU's maybe even a little less. If you like your beers really bitter go for it but that is IPA type bitter (but then IPA's are bigger so they can carry a bit more). I've got an American Wheat IPA which is also in the 60 IBU range but I really leaned heavy on the late hops. They won't really make the beer all that bitter but they will really jack up the hop flavor and aroma. Actually, my beer should go to secondary tonight where I will dry hop with an ounce each of Mosaic and Citra (by the way I cut the Mosaic flavor hops with Simcoe for whatever that's worth). :D
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)
